Exponential growth in the demand for mobile broadband, need for anytime-anywhere connectivity and the burgeoning number of smart connected devices - both smartphones and tablets - have manifested a radical change in the network deployment models and overall architecture of wireless networks.
Distributed Antenna Systems, or DAS, originated from the need to provide wireless coverage in hard-to-reach areas. These included indoor settings like commercial buildings, convention centers, airports, stadiums & arenas, hotels & train stations, and outdoor settings like suburban and urban locales, canyons, tunnels and highway corridors.
Over the past few years, base station design has changed, going from mostly centralized architectures to split arrangements. C-RAN segregates the radio and digital baseband elements of the typical BTS. This allows the radio elements, more commonly called remote radio heads (RRHs), to be remotely distributed and then connected via fiber optic cable or other high bandwidth solutions back to the centralized digital baseband units.
Small Cells are the most recent evolution of wireless radio technology and are becoming main-stream for Wireless Service Providers (WSPs) as part of their Heterogeneous network (HetNet) strategy. Small Cells are compact and low-powered base stations. The term, Small Cells, is an umbrella term used for a wide range of these compact base stations that include Femto cells, Pico cells, Micro cells and Metro cells. These low-powered radio access nodes typically have a coverage range from 30 feet to several hundred feet and have become a highly viable solution to alleviate the network congestion by providing for the densification needs of the WSPs.
Referred to as the iDUCT® technology, this method of enabling wireless connectivity via the use of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) ducts ensures a lower cost of ownership, rapid installation & deployment timeframes, alongside aesthetic benefits.
Wi-Fi has evolved to become a more integral part of the mobile and cellular market ecosystem. Smart phones and other mobile devices already have embedded Wi-Fi capability as a supplement to cellular connectivity. From a network perspective, Wi-Fi has similar attributes as licensed band Small Cells with some key exceptions. Wi-Fi does not provide the same level of service integration and, most importantly, lacks seamless mobility support today.
Companies today require access to fast and reliable broadband infrastructure (wired and wireless) to serve a variety of critical enterprise applications. With an increasing demand and reliance on private and public cloud hosted applications and services today, the need for real time access and interaction on a local, national, or even global scale is critical for the success of a business. ExteNet designs, builds, owns and operates a fiber based communication ecosystem that delivers near real-time access to a variety of broadband product and service providers from one location in the building. Today, in-building broadband connectivity is the 4th utility and its availability impacts the enterprise’s bottom line and directly influences tenants’ leasing behavior.
ExteNet’s latest advancement is the development of a Software Defined Network (SDN) architecture to facilitate the deployment and coordinated operation of Networks-within-Networks. The solution, known as mNET®, is a highly flexible and scalable Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solution that can be centralized, distributed and/or virtualized to meet 4G LTE deployment needs.
ExteNet’s Communication Infrastructure Solutions provides high-performance connectivity services over its wholly-owned fiber network to Service Providers, Enterprise and Real Estate customers. Focused on creating the best customer experience from sale through implementation, and ongoing service life-cycle management, our business philosophy is based on offering operationally efficient solutions with flexible business terms delivered with speed, simplicity, and confidence.
ExteNet’s Global Services Organization offers Comprehensive, Scalable and Customizable Options across 3 main service categories to enable top- tier Network Performance and Reliability: Network Operations Services, Field Operations Services and Professional Services.
