Extenet Systems to Improve Wireless Connectivity at 15 Banner Health Facilities
Indoor Distributed Networks to Boost Wireless Coverage & Capacity in Facilities at One of the Nation’s Largest Nonprofit Hospital Systems
LISLE, Illinois – December 6, 2011 – ExteNet Systems, Inc. has been awarded the rights to enable advanced indoor wireless network connectivity at 15 healthcare facilities owned and operated by Phoenix-based Banner Health, the company announced today.
The indoor distributed antenna system (DAS) networks will give patients, visitors and medical and professional staff access to robust wireless services provided by carriers that use these DAS networks to enhance their coverage and capacity within the facilities.
“Reliable wireless connectivity inside our facilities is in big demand for physicians and staff, as well as for visitors with mobile devices such as smartphones,” said Michael Warden, Banner Health’s Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of Information Technology. “A key advantage of this arrangement is that multiple wireless carriers can be added to the distributed networks, which potentially benefits everyone using a mobile device, regardless of their chosen service provider.”
Banner Health is known for its focus on innovation in deploying information technology, including an integrated electronic medical record (EMR) system. Enhancing wireless connectivity in its facilities is another manifestation of Banner Health’s commitment in this area.
As with any DAS network built and operated by ExteNet, the service includes support by ExteNet’s Network Operations Center (NOC), which provides 24x7x365 monitoring of the network.
“Robust wireless connectivity is essential at modern healthcare facilities,” said Ross Manire, ExteNet’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased that industry-leading Banner Health chose ExteNet as its distributed network systems infrastructure provider.”
