i5 Wireless® Acquisition by ExteNet Systems Complements Company’s Indoor HVAC Market Strengths
Patented Technology Will Enhance the Company’s Wireless Offerings That Create Waveguides Out of Ductwork
LISLE, Illinois – April 2, 2009 – ExteNet Systems, Inc. has announced the acquisition of i5 Wireless, one of the country’s early developers of innovative indoor wireless networks. With the acquisition of i5 Wireless, the indoor distributed antenna system (DAS) wireless technologies and services already offered by ExteNet Systems will be augmented by patented wireless technology licensed to i5 Wireless from Carnegie Mellon University. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced.

This acquisition also affords us the opportunity to benefit from i5’s relationship with leading researchers in this field, as we look to expanding our innovation and research.”
ExteNet Systems will operate the indoor wireless networks previously installed by i5 Wireless. These include high-rises as well as networks contracted through the United States General Services Administration (GSA) for some of the most widely recognized government agencies and buildings in the nation’s capital.
Under ExteNet Systems ownership, i5 Wireless will continue to hold the exclusive rights to market and install the patented technology for propagating wireless signals through Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued two of these patents in November 1999, and the third one in August 2004.
ExteNet Systems’ indoor DAS installations, including HVAC, are already recognized for helping wireless service providers enhance their cellular networks’ coverage and capacity. The i5 Wireless services add a dimension designed to distribute radio signals for Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and other radio frequencies. Customers will be able to readily deploy indoor networks to handle a broad range of applications – whether it is for cellular enhancement, pagers, two-way radios, video conferencing signals, and local area networks. The i5 Wireless DAS technology will easily incorporate into ExteNet Systems’ in-building service offerings.

ExteNet Systems has built DAS networks for every major wireless carrier in the United States, and has more than 30 outdoor DAS networks in development or operation across North America. Some of these installations are located on the Las Vegas Strip, in the suburbs of New York City, as well as across California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Michigan. The company’s 30-plus indoor DAS networks that are operational and in development include installations covering millions of square feet within residential, health care, hospitality, enterprise, convention centers and educational buildings.
