Indoor RF Engineer II
General overview
The primary area of focus for the Indoor RF Engineer II will be to concentrate on system performance, design and optimization of a variety of custom configured wireless distribution networks.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Possess in-depth experience with designing, deploying and optimizing wireless indoor networks (passive and active distribution).
- Understand radio wave propagation theory.
- Understand differentiators between CDMA, WCDMA, GSM, EDGE, GPRS, TDMA, iDEN, WiFi, WiMax and other protocols.
- Become conversant with new technology and software quickly.
- Present problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to find non-standard solutions.
- Possess working knowledge of radio planning, optimization and technologies (2G, 2.5G, 3G, 3.5G, 4G).
- Manage and prioritize assigned tasks in order to meet deadlines while also highlighting risks and implementing contingency plans.

Key Responsibilities
- Overall DAS systems design, planning and optimization.
- Indoor RF system design and propagation modeling.
- Link budget analysis, design criteria and traffic analysis.
- Outdoor and indoor site surveys to identify RF coverage requirements, equipment location and antenna placement/orientation.
- Attend site surveys to include, but not limited to, working with clients, sub-contractors, property owners/tenants and Company personnel.
- Determine capacity requirements; evaluate Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) vs. BTS, Coax vs. Fiber Optical solutions; select appropriate equipment for the design.
- Understand equipment co-location requirements for multiple operators.
- Create system(s) designs, materials lists; establish project scopes of work, testing requirements, and design/project variables.
- Verify RF related site engineering drawings.
- Ability to interpret both electrical and mechanical blueprints.
- Demonstrated Proficiency using Visio and/or AutoCAD LT.
- Site/DAS build verification and acceptance.
- Understanding of Frequency, Control Channel planning and/or PN planning.
- Understanding of Co-channel and adjacent channel interference testing and analysis.
- Network performance improvement (KPIs) and optimization tasks.
- Assume full responsibility for system design and commissioning, including but not limited to; specifying equipment and materials, oversight and instruction of installation and equipment operation, provide system commissioning support, review system documentation, As-Built drawings, test results, system topology, and infrastructure modifications.
- Review and support the development of project close-out packages including but not limited to, the aforementioned and project financial performance.
- Provide Network Operations support for site acceptance or rejection until such time as a site is properly constructed, operating and documented.
Qualifications
- Education: BSEE. (MSEE preferred).
- 5 years experience.
- Possess in-depth knowledge in radio frequency propagation.
- Must have working experience on at least two RF technologies - GSM/CDMA/UMTS/AWS/iDEN.
- Must have worked on one or more RF propagation/prediction tools.
- Ideal candidate will be proficient in both Atoll/Forsk and iBwave.
- Must have worked on one or more industry acceptable performance data management tools, drive test tools and other optimization tools.
