Title: System Administrator

Position Overview:

The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling colleagues, partners, and customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering of system administrative related solutions for various operational projects
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration standards and procedures
  • Work with end users on how services are used and how to better use them. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems and key processes; reviewing system and application logs where applicable; and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Coordinates all voice and data network moves, as well as additions, changes and trouble tickets for all ExteNet locations
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
  • Responsible for maintaining functional / business unit relationships
  • Responsibilities may require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree required, MS/MA preferred
  • 4-6 years systems administration or similar experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data and form recommendations
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory or Azure Active Directory
    • Knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet
    • Knowledge of structured wiring systems for Fiber Optic and Level - 5 type cables (design)
    • Excellent Microsoft Office suite experience
    • Excellent Windows Server, UNIX, and internet networking experience
    • Working knowledge of network analysis and network management
    • Excellent Knowledge of Office 365
    • Excellent knowledge of Server 2008 R2, Server 2012 R2, Server 2016
    • Excellent knowledge of patch management
    • Knowledge of Group policy and AD management
