Willis Tower

Connecting Willis Tower With Distributed Networks

The tallest building in the world for decades, Chicago's Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, surpassed the World Trade Center as the world’s tallest, when it opened in 1973 and held this ranking for 25 years. It is now the 2nd tallest in the US behind the recently opened Freedom Tower in NYC. Willis tower is home to many iconic companies, including the corporate HQ of United Airlines, which occupies more than 20 floors of the building. The observation deck up top hosts 1M+ visitors who can see up to four states on a clear day.

Throughout the building, ExteNet’s Distributed Network provides consistent and reliable coverage for one of the leading national wireless carriers. This reliable mobile connectivity ensures reliable voice coverage and high-performance data connectivity for the growing number of users who surf the web, text messages, make calls and post photos from their many mobile devices. Despite such a significant space and the underlying connectivity requirements by tenants and building ownership, ExteNet was able to complete the project within 6 months, using its patented iDUCT® technology to create a modern Distributed Network, utilizing Willis Tower's existing HVAC infrastructure.
